The prickly poppy (Argemone mexicana) from Central America has majestic
orange and yellow flowers from early to late summer. Their sweet scent
attracts bees and other insects. The flowers are carried 3 ft (90 cm)
above ground on sprawling prickly stems with gray-blue thistlelike
leaves. The flowers can be up to 3 in (7.5 cm) wide. Grow prickly
poppies in informal plantings in borders, preferably where they can be
left alone to scatter their seeds.
