Ornamental cabbages (Brassica oleracea) are foliage plants ans popular
in summer and fall beds for their brightly colored leaves. The foliage
opens out from the center and is frilled or deeply wavy, varying from
pale green with the midribs often in contrasting colors. The creamy
white, pink, or carmine centers look like full-blown flowers. Ornamental
cabbages usually grow about 9 in (23 cm) tall, while ornamental kale is
twice as high, with colorful feathery centers rising above the foliage.
Seeds come in mixed colors. Fall-and winter-growing ornamental cabbages,
suitable for container growing, come in single colors or in mixtures.
