Dwarf morning glory (Convolvulus tricolor), the only annual in the
genus, has all the beauty of its cousin, the white-flowered perennial
bindweed (C. arvensis), without its strangling habit. Its funnel-shaped
flowers, which are on display from midsummer until early fall, are a
magnificent deep blue with white or yellow throats. Carried on 6-15 in
(15-38 cm) high, bushy and erect plants with oval dark green leaves,
they look most effective formal beds or mixed borders.
Popular species and cultivars
The following favorite cultivars have been developed from Convolvulus
tricolor.
'Blue Ensign' has brilliant blue flowers with yellow and white centers.
It is dwarf cultivar, 6 in (15 cm) high.
'Dwarf Rainbow Flash' has large flowers in mixed colors; pink, carmine,
rose, deep blue, pale blue, purple, and lilac. It is 6 in (15 cm) high.
'Royal Ensign' has blue flowers with white and yellow centers.
