Gazania
gazania
- Height 8-15 in (20-38
cm)
- Planting distance 1 ft (30 cm)
- Flowers midsummer to first frost
- Well-drained soil
- Sunny site
- Half-hardy annual
Large daisylike flowers in bright yellows are the main feature of this
mat-forming 9 in (23 cm) high South African plant. The flowers appear
from midsummer to the first frost, but open only in bright sunshine -
even then they close in midafternoon. The leaves are deep green, with
white-felted undersides. Gazanias are excellent for beds and make good
cut flowers. They are wind resistant and thrive in seaside gardens and
in the Southwest; a combination of heat and humidity is fatal to
gazanias.
