The soft gray-green foliage and clouds of tiny white or pink flowers that this annual produces from late spring to early fall serve as a good foil for other border plants and are also good for cutting. Several garden cultivars have been developed from Gypsophila elegans.

Popular species and cultivars
The following seed strains are readily available.
'Covent Garden' has large white flowers, excellent for cutting.
'Giant White' has exceptionally large white flowers.
'Improved Hybrids' come in shades of shell pink, carmine-rose, and pure white.
'Red Cloud' bears a mass of carmine-pink blooms.
