Malope is one of the easiest and showiest - hardy annuals. Its
trumpet-shaped flowers add bright colors to annual and mixed borders all
summer, and they are also good for cutting. The species, Malope trifida,
grows up to 3 ft (90 cm) high, bearing its blooms in large clusters. The
most widely available form is 'Grandiflora,' whose large flowers are
borne in great profusion. Seed mixtures producing white, rose-pink,
crimson, or rich purple blooms are available, as are single-colored
strains, such as 'Pink Queen' and 'White Queen.'
