Ursinia
ursinia
- Height 1-11/2 ft (30-45
cm)
- Planting distance 10-12 in (25-30 cm)
- Flowers early summer to early fall
- Light, even poor soil
- Open, sunny site
- Half-hardy annual
This South African daisylike annual is a particularly bright and
graceful plant. The pale green finely dissected foliage forms a misty
green mass, above which brilliant orange-yellow, purple-centered flowers
are borne. The floral display extends from early summer to early fall.
When each flower fades, the protective sepals around it become white.
Ursinias look best grown in mixed borders, bedding displays, or
containers. They thrive in coastal gardens. The cultivar 'Solar Fire' (1
ft/30 cm high) has bright orange flowers.
