Dieramas look superb grown in gaps in paving surrounding a garden pond. While only winter hardy in nearly frost-free regions such as southern California, they will survive farther north in a sheltered, south-facing site. Two species, Dierama pulcherrimum and a smaller D. pendulum are available. They have long, narrow grasslike leaves that are joined in late summer and fall by drooping heads of purple-red flowers on curving stems.
