Ornithogalum umbellatum is hardy and free-flowering. It is a small
plant, up to 1 ft (30 cm) high, with glistening white star-shaped
flowers, which produce a fine display in mid- and late spring. Its one
disadvantage is that the flowers open flat only when the sun is out. Any
fertile, well-drained soil is suitable, and the plant tolerates partial
shade, although a sunny site is preferable. Narrow borders, sod, and
rock gardens all make good sites.
