An effective ground cover plant, fringecup (Tellima grandiflora) is
grown mainly for its broad maplelike foliage, which forms a thick mat
close to the ground, topped from late spring with spikes of numerous
bell-shaped flowers. The hairy lobed leaves are bright green and 4 in
(10 cm) wide. The flowers are greenish white to green-yellow, turning
reddish as they age. The leaves of 'Purpurea' turn purplish in winter.
