An effective ground cover plant, fringecup (Tellima grandiflora) is grown mainly for its broad maplelike foliage, which forms a thick mat close to the ground, topped from late spring with spikes of numerous bell-shaped flowers. The hairy lobed leaves are bright green and 4 in (10 cm) wide. The flowers are greenish white to green-yellow, turning reddish as they age. The leaves of 'Purpurea' turn purplish in winter.
